But how do you know if it’s time to switch? Have a read through this list – if one or more of these applies to you, then you could need to make a change.

1. You need more flexibility…
For all sorts of reasons, you might come to realize you need more flexibility when it comes to your studies.
Maybe you’re a new parent (or soon-to-be parent) or maybe you’re having health issues. Or perhaps you just need a better way to make your studies fit into your already busy schedule.
If you need more flexibility, studying online will suit you better. It allows to study at the times which best suit your own schedule, or alter your course load to fit your personal needs. You can take as many (or as few) modules as you like each semester and study at whatever times/days suit you!
2. You need to make studying more affordable…
Many students find that studying on-campus is more expensive than they anticipated.
The cost of commuting to campus every day, living away from home in university accommodation, and tuition fees all add up!
Switching to an online program is a great way to make studying more affordable. You can lower your costs by cutting out the commute and studying from home. And you’ll still have access to financial aid as an online student – there’s more information on that here.
3. You need to work while you study…
Balancing work with your studies can be a challenge if you study on-campus.
You have a set schedule for your lectures, which can conflict with your work shifts or limit the amount of work you can take on.
By studying online, you can design your own study schedule so that it doesn’t conflict with your work commitments. And that means you can study in the evenings (if you’re a night owl), in the mornings (if you’re an early bird) or even on the weekends!
4. You’re moving out of the town/country where your campus is located…
If you need to relocate permanently or for a prolonged period of time, studying on-campus becomes an issue.
There’s no way you can show up to lectures or find resources in the library if you’re in a town on the other side of the country or in another country entirely!
Switching to an online degree will mean you can continue your studies without any problems. It doesn’t matter which city, country or time zone you’re in when you study online. And if you’re going to be travelling lots while you study, you can still make it work – we have some advice for you here.
5. You aren’t getting the support or quality of education you need…
Studying on-campus doesn’t necessarily guarantee you a good experience.
You might find the quality of the course isn’t up to scratch, the materials are outdated or the student support services are limited (or almost non-existent).
If that’s the case, you need to switch to a different educational institution ASAP! It’s important to study at an institution which meets your needs (and makes those tuition fees worthwhile).
